A kitchen renovation is a big project that can feel daunting. This is especially true if you are going to be living in the home during the kitchen renovation. Even though a kitchen renovation is a big project, it doesn’t need to be overwhelming or stressful. One of the main stresses of a kitchen renovation is deciding on the design and layout. Four tips for a successful kitchen renovation that is well laid out and designed well are:
- Walkways – When designing the overall layout of your kitchen, you need to put thought into the walkways of your kitchen. You don’t want your kitchen to feel crowded or flow poorly. Walkways in a kitchen should be at least 36 inches wide. The cooking area for a single cook kitchen should be at least 42 inches wide and for a two-cook kitchen should be 48 inches wide.
- The Microwave – Deciding on where to place your microwave and how high to install it will depend on who will be using the microwave. If kids will be using it, you may want to consider placing in underneath your countertops. If it will only be used by adults, then a typical height is about 15 inches above the countertops.
- The Island – The island is a big part of a kitchen, and oftentimes, the main reason for a kitchen renovation. First, decide on how you plan to use your island. Do you want to be able to eat at your island? If so, then plan to have your cooktop somewhere else in the kitchen.
- Landing Space – You need to allow for enough space next to your fridge, sink, and cooktop. A minimum for the landing spaces in your kitchen is 15 inches.
